A5-2: Beograd arrivals

1977

Beograd as a hub

compared with 1938 some differences can be noted. There was a larger volume of trains arriving via the Simplon route in 1977 and a significant number of trains originating in Germany. The Direct Orient Express and the Simplon Express handle the dwindling traffic to and from France and the Direct Orient Express is about to disappear. Traffic on the Orient route via Budapest now consisted of the services from Moskva, Warszawa and Berlin and this amounts to three trains in 1977 compared with eight in 1938. The remarshaling task remains in 1977. In 1977 three trains leave Beograd for Istanbul and the same quantity for Athenai. These destinations by then are served by separate trains.
